Lady leaning on a Viking longboat the remind us of Dublin's long history - Dublin tours

Mostly Medieval

See the sunken sights, imagine the sounds and inhale the smells of Medieval Dublin.

About the tour

We will see the sights, sounds and most importantly smells of a very different time. The Dark Ages was when the Vikings founded Dublin and everything was made of wood. There were constant battles both internally and with the Gaelic Irish so life was uncertain and many people were shipped to Iceland, brrr.

Strongbow arrived and brought Dublin into a larger Medieval world. Was it was world of Princesses in Towers and Knights in shining armour, let’s see!

We will see a sunken tower, remains of the old Dublin walls and have a thing (game) where we work out who stole the sheep in a Viking court of law. Bring your play swords and we will duel on the Medieval Walls to see trial by combat, popular in Medieval Times.

This was a time when children worked and got up really early, when they slept in the same beds and shared this room with their parents, yuck!

There are two versions of this tour, one for children and the other to bring out the inner child.

What a wonderful experience! I took Ruth's Coffee History tour with the tasting experience with some friends and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Hearing about Dublin's coffee houses in the 1700's was enlightening and Ruth delighted with funny anecdotes about the characters of the time. I found out some really interesting facts about Dublin and Ruth took lots of time to answer questions. But the real highlight was the coffee tasting after. Ruth provided treats (gorgeous homemade chocolates) along with several coffee in the beautiful setting of Reads, which is the oldest shop in Dublin. All in all a gorgeous experience and highly recommended.

Thanks Ruth!

A walk through Dublin with Ruth turns a casual stroll into a rich and rewarding adventure. Her encyclopedic knowledge and enthusiasm conjures up Vikings, grand Georgian soirées, passionate revolutionaries, and eloquent writers, all whirling about in this “seat of Western civilization”. After a journey with Ruth, you will never see Dublin in the same way!

I've signed up my two 11 years old for the walk and attended as well. It was such a fantastic walk and Ruth made it fun, interactive and full of stories,. We've learned a lot about medieval Dublin and discovered places we haven't been to before. I will never look at Dublin the same way. Highly recommended. Thanks Ruth!
